While Simon Fraser University dorms offer the convenience of walking to class and included meal plans, the reviews are often mixed: spaces are often limited and cramped, and students frequently complain about the limited and unhealthy food options in the cafeteria. In contrast, most students ultimately choose off-campus room rentals near Simon Fraser University because it offers a more independent lifestyle and better value. Located in prime locations, allowing you to easily commute to and from campus using your U-Pass (included in your tuition), saving you the cost of buying and maintaining a car. Living off-campus means you'll have access to a wider variety of food options and more opportunities to explore Vancouver, truly enjoying your own pace of life.

SFU has three campuses in the Greater Vancouver area: Burnaby, Vancouver, and Surrey. However, for most international students, the most significant and frequently compared differences in living experience are between the first two campuses. Simon Fraser University Burnaby campus is the main campus, it's built on a mountaintop, surrounded by forests, and with its iconic concrete buildings, it feels like a real-life "Hogwarts" when the fog rolls in. If you're a science or engineering (CS/Engineering) or kinesiology (Kin) student, you'll basically be spending all your time here. The academic intensity is incredibly high, and while getting down the mountain requires taking a bus, this slightly "isolated" environment is perfect for focusing on research. It's also the only option for experiencing classic campus life and living in Simon Fraser University dorms.

SFU Vancouver campus is the "urban professional" hub, a practical training ground for those focused on career advancement. It doesn't resemble a traditional university at all; it's more like a cluster of office buildings scattered throughout the bustling downtown area, right next to Waterfront and Gastown, with easy access to the SkyTrain and upscale shopping malls. This is the main campus for upper-year business (Beedie School of Business), arts, and international studies students. While there are no on-campus dormitories here, and everyone commutes, its biggest advantage is its proximity to internship companies and unparalleled networking opportunities. uhomes.com's affordable SFU off-campus housing is conveniently located near the campus, starts from CA$750/month.

A. Burnaby Campus Students

Preferred: UniverCity or Lougheed/Burquitlam.

Reasons: UniverCity allows for an extra 10 minutes of sleep; Lougheed/Burquitlam offers convenience (groceries, restaurants) and a very short commute (approximately 15 minutes on the 143 bus).

B. "Burnaby + Surrey" Dual-Campus Students

Preferred: Lougheed Town Centre or Burquitlam.

Reasons: This is a hub connecting the two campuses.

To Burnaby Campus: Take the 143/145 bus directly from downstairs.

To Surrey Campus: Take the SkyTrain (Expo Line/Millennium Line) from downstairs, only 4-5 stops, completely avoiding traffic.

Remember not to live in Brentwood, as it will be much further to Surrey.

C. Burnaby + Vancouver DT

Preferred: Brentwood or Hastings-Sunrise.

Reasons: Upper-level courses for these programs are often held Downtown (Harbour Centre/Goldcorp Center).

Brentwood: Take the Millennium Line SkyTrain to VCC and transfer, or take a bus to Downtown; take the 130 bus to the main campus.

Hastings: Live near Hastings Street, and take the R5 RapidBus. Go left to attend classes Downtown, and go right to attend classes on Burnaby Mountain – a perfect balance, and rent is cheaper than Brentwood.
