Whether you can swap your room at Prospect House depends mainly on room availability and your move-in status. There are 2 situations based on your move-in status:

1. If you haven't moved in yet, your request for a room change can usually be fulfilled as long as there are available rooms. Room swaps before moving in are free of charge.

2. If you have already moved into Prospect House, you will need to confirm with the on-site management team about swapping rooms. Your request can be accommodated when suitable rooms are available. A service fee may apply to cover the processing.

Please note:

• Room swapping is only allowed to the same room type or upgrading to a more expensive one.

• Downgrading to a cheaper room type is generally not permitted.

• If the staff agrees to change your room, a new contract will be sent for re-signing.

We understand that you want to decorate your room at Prospect House to make it feel like home. Simple decorations that won't damage the room are generally permitted. To avoid extra charges for damages, you can decorate your flat following these rules:

1. Use freestanding decor, such as plants, photo frames, desk lamps, and rugs.

2. Use damage-free strips, hanging photos, posters, and light ornaments without leaving marks.

3. Bring personal bedding to add colour and personality to your space.

4. Never make holes or stains in the wall, avoid using nails, screws, Blu-Tack, strong tapes, and paints.

Warm Reminder:

The room must be returned to its original condition when you check out.

Student accommodation rental periods are fixed. For early check-in, please confirm room availability with the management team at Prospect House. Early check-in generally applies to two situations:

1. Early check-in for language courses
   Many student properties offer rental periods for the language course. Short-term rentals typically require a separate lease. You'll need to submit your booking details separately, even if you've already booked a long-term tenancy.
   Some PBSAs offer combined contracts for language courses + a regular semester stay, allowing you to book based on your needs.

2. Early check-in to familiarise with the area
   If you want to check in early for a few days to familiarise yourself with the nearby neighbourhood or local amenities. Contact the property to confirm availability during the turnover period (typically 7 days for cleaning/maintenance between tenants).

• First, you need to inventory all the items in your room. Be sure to note any existing damage or missing items with photos, and inform the apartment of any broken furniture, flooring, etc., promptly. This avoids disputes over costs of room damage when you move out.

• Next, connect to the Wi-Fi, unpack your belongings, and make the space feel like home.

• After these, you could start exploring the communal areas of the building and surrounding neighbourhoods, meeting your flatmates, and preparing for school.

Remember to register with local services for an easier life for the coming academic year:

• Doctor (GP): It's essential to register with a local doctor soon after you arrive in Huddersfield. The reception team can provide a list of nearby GP options.

• Bank Account: If you're an international student, now is a good time to set up your UK bank account.

• Council Tax Exemption: Full-time students need to submit the Council Tax Exemption Form to be exempt from council tax.

You don't have to pay Council Tax if you are a full-time university student in the UK. It is necessary to formally declare your student status to the local council to prove your exemption, which saves you big! The process can be completed simply online. All you need to provide is your student ID number and a Council Tax exemption certificate, which your university offers after you have fully enrolled.

A guarantor is usually not required when booking at Prospect House. However, if you choose to pay your rent in instalments, a guarantor may be required to ensure overdue rent payments or possible damages can be covered.
